POSITION:            MANAGING DIRECTOR

About the Role:

MascallDance is at an exciting transition in its development and seeks a Managing Director to lead and support us through the evolution of this. We are looking for a professional arts administrator who knows the world of the Arts and can fundraise for the company.

We're looking for someone unflappable, with a great sense of humour, who knows about and likes the work we do.

Reporting to the Board of Directors through the Chair, the Managing Director provides the leadership and vision that ensures the financial and organizational success of Mascall Dance. They are a key spokesperson, advocate, and visible representative of Mascall Dance in the communities we serve. 

The Managing Director oversees the strategic direction and day-to-day operation of Mascall Dance. They are responsible and accountable for the overall management of Mascall Dance’s business.  The person we're looking for is very familiar with the characteristics of live arts, an experienced grantwriter, and already works in the non-profit sector.

The Managing Director advocates for equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives that are grounded in partnerships and committed to inviting historically excluded voices into Mascall Dance’s workspace, boardroom, backstage, and through Mascall Dance productions and community programming.

By stewarding effective funding submissions and earned revenue outcomes, the Managing Director balances the need for artistic vibrancy with fiscal responsibility. They work closely with the Artistic Director on fundraising for the Company and work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure good governance, communication, and transparency. The position requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with artists, donors, board members, community leaders, administrative and artistic staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

OPERATIONS:

· Develop and implement strategies to achieve the company's financial and operational goals, coordinating with the Board of Directors and other staff.

· Manage the Transition Plan with the Artistic Associates, coordinating the day to day and adjusting as required, financially and operationally as it develops. 

· Apply a thorough knowledge of how the sector works, and take leadership in compliance with it nationally, provincially, and locally.

· Develop strategies to increase the sustainability of existing programs. This will include expansion of the company's audience base, without sacrificing the quality of the work.

· This role encompasses visioning, strategizing, and hands-on implementation.

· Mixture of in-person and remote work.

 FINANCE:

· Responsible for the overall sustainability of Mascall Dance while fundraising, finding efficiencies and revenue opportunities.

· Work with the Artistic Director to ensure the artistic programming aligns with effective short- and long-term financials.

· Communication with all necessary parties on budget projections, shortfalls, and cash flow, so that the whole community of Mascall Dance functions as a team.

· Manage the annual audit process with contracted auditors. 

· Manage and maintain the company’s books.  Partner with contracted bookkeeper.  Manage monthly reconciliations, coding, payroll, payroll remittances, and employment and regulatory filings, as required.

HUMAN RESOURCES:

· In partnership with the team, recruit, hire, onboard and mentor new team members and contractors, establishing goals and responsibilities for all positions.

·  Develop an environment that allows the community around MascallDance to excel.  Develop and manage appropriate policies for employer/employee interactions. (Reference:  EcoSystems.)

FUNDRAISING:

· Find and cultivate new sources of financial support.

· Develop and oversee the annual fundraising plan and its execution. 

· Oversee fundraising and stewardship activities. 

· Maintain positive relationships with donors, sponsors, government agencies, and other funding sources to secure financial support for the company's operations and special projects.

MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS:

· The company has a newsletter, blog, website, and social media.  Events are individually publicized.  In collaboration with contracted personnel, oversee campaigns and execution.

· Develop multi-year and annual marketing strategic planning.   

BOARD RELATIONS:

· Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish long-term goals, policies, and governance structures that align with Mascall Dance's mission and vision.

·  Regularly inform the Board on the company's welfare: possible shortfalls, opportunities, and circumstances that will affect the company's well-being.  

· Support the Board in identifying and recruiting new members with diverse expertise and networks to strengthen the organization.

· Co-ordinate, attend and participate in all Board meetings and sub-committee meetings as an Ex-Officio member of the Board.

EMPLOYMENT AND COMPENSATION:

· Term: This is a permanent, full-time role with the expectation of a long-term commitment. 

· Salary Range: $60,000 - $77,000 per annum.

· Citizenship: Open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents. 

· Location: While Mascall Dance does not maintain a physical office, this role is based in Vancouver. Applicants must confirm that they are based in or will relocate to the Greater Vancouver Area. Relocation assistance is not available. 

· Start date: August 1, 2025 (negotiable)
