COME ALONG- A DIRECTORS LAB ($10 000 FELLOWSHIP)
WHAT:
Mascall Dance invites artists working across the live performing arts to explore what it means to become an Artistic Director.
Beginning in 2027, four artists will join Jennifer Mascall and the Mascall Dance team for approximately 10 weeks of paid, hands-on work. The fellowship pays $10 000/ year.
These artistic directors will participate in the artistic and organizational life of the company contributing to creation, production, administration, communications, community engagement, fundraising, and leadership.
The work and schedule is adaptable/ flexible and the process will continue over 2+ years.
Throughout we will be holding conversations amongst ourselves and the artistic community on the role of an artistic director in the current arts ecosystem.
WHO:
This opportunity is for artists who have begun establishing their creative practice. Artists that are ready to lead and reshape an arts organization yet still need to experience the range and breadth that the role of Artistic Director entails. What matters is a desire to learn how artistic vision can be realized. Artists will learn to survive the practical, collaborative, and often improvised work of leadership.

HOW:
Part fellowship, part laboratory, and part incubator, COME ALONG offers artists a supportive space to test ideas, take on unfamiliar roles, make mistakes, and discover their own approach to artistic direction. Artistic directors will learn from Mascall Dance’s 45 years of experience while bringing their own questions, perspectives, and visions as they work on projects with Mascall Dance.
After two years, some artistic directors may want to continue and would be invited to apply for a second two-year term. During this phase, Mascall Dance would support the development and production of their work, and Artistic Directors would take on a greater role in the company’s artistic and organizational decision making.
