RABBI DIANE ELLIOT
Niggun is a musical form sourced in Jewish mystical devotional traditions and dating back at least to the 18th century. In its purest form, the niggun is a melodic meditation, a wordless song that bursts forth from the soul, engaging the whole body of the singer in expressing a full range of emotions, from ecstatic joy to deep longing to grief to passionate desire.
"I will be offering guided movement and vocal explorations, wrought by these modalities and emotions, which in turn invite participants into the discovery of their own wordless songs." Dianne Elliot
Traditionally, the music unfolds in particular modalities, which support different aspects of community ritual and prayer life.
