THE THREE CORNERED HAT

A profoundly powerful study of movement, space and human interaction, MascallDance's The Three Cornered Hat with choreography by Jennifer Mascall features the diverse talents of contemporary dancers-Lara Barclay, Amber Funk Barton, Dario Dinuzzi, Billy Marchenski, Darcy McMurray, and Chris Wright.

With its deeply collaborative and interdisciplinary approach, The Three Cornered Hat is a gutsy and energetic investigation of the spaces in-between. Quirky, eccentric and humorous, abstracted notions of human experience are played out in cramped quarters on stage to manipulate the space to mimic modern living.

Interconnected vignettes are stitched together by the performers as they construct worlds out of piles of red artists' notebooks building sculptural structures imbued with multi-layered meanings. Elements of engagement and participation are also elemental to The Three Cornered Hat with an intimate performance configuration that provides the audience with close proximity to the performers and a heightened sense of the work.

The collective talent of artists from varied disciples were brought together in this work with set design by architect Bill Pechet, video by Candelario Andrade, spoken work by poet Barbara Adler, lighting design by John Macfarlane and an electroacoustic soundscape composed by Stefan Smulovitz, who also performs live.
